Über uns

Warren Te Brugge established My Arms Wide Open Foundation (MAWO) in 2009 with the purpose of working with mothers, children, and youth in South Africa to enable them to build sustainable communities and responsible businesses and to break the chains of their parents´ past prejudice, preserve their culture and contribute to their communities as confident, caring individuals.

The goal of My Arms Wide Open is to empower the people of South Africa to grow with, interact and embrace those around them in a positive, compassionate and understanding way and to create value within their communities. This predisposes individuals to focus on the good in the people around them.

Our current services include:
• Building Greened Communities - Building communities that provide for the needs of the residents that are greened with indigenous trees and plants that provide greening within the community and also serve as food sources.
• Community Capacity Building - Strengthening the knowledge, abilities, skills and behaviour of individuals within the community to improve structures and processes.
• Coping and Support Skills – Training within the community to provide coping skills for social workers and members of the community supporting other members of the community.
• ECD (Early Childhood Development): Programs that support and foster self-respect, indigenous cultural learning, critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration, networking, adaptability, initiative, communication skills, analytical skills that drive curiosity and imagination.
• Education – Courses that enable people to identify opportunities to support and grow within their community and learn critical skills, not educate to qualify them to leave the community.
• Embracing Community - Providing the skills and support structures to enable the members of the community to cope, nurture, grow and thrive.
• Food Sources - Working with the community to provide training and a model that enables and supports the establishment of micro and community-gardens established around small business-enterprise models that provide foods for the individual, the family and the community that are culturally and indigenously acceptable.
• Leadership Training - Creating leadership within the community to support and mentor all members of the community.
• Mentoring - Promoting sustainable practices that support collaboration and skills creation within the community.
• Small Business Services - Providing opportunities for members of the community to learn the skills to establish, run and grow their own community-based small business.
• Small Business Loan Program - Providing a hybrid loan program that supports the creation of independent small to medium businesses that can thrive and do not become dependent on the loan program to survive.
• Sustainable Business Growth – Once a business has been established, a portion of the cash flow generated will be used to support the establishment of further small business.
• Training – Creating an environment that is safe enough to enable individuals to ask questions and develop programs that foster critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, adaptability and initiative.
