As an independent Cambodian non-governmental organisation, Cambodian Development Mission for Disability (CDMD), established in 2007, is working toward an inclusive, barrier-free and rights-based society for people with disabilities. Community based rehabilitation is a strategy for the rehabilitation, equalisation of opportunities, poverty reduction and social inclusion of people with disabilities. Moreover, it is our core activity and addresses all components of the WHO CBR guidelines, providing a holistic approach that considers health, education, livelihood, social rehabilitation and empowerment.

What We Do
CDMD contribute to the promotion rights and equal opportunities of persons with disabilities by coordinating services through community based approaches in 26 districts of five provinces of Cambodia. We provide a comprehensive community based rehabilitation (CBR) services to persons with disabilities and their families, and collaborating with government and non-government agencies to facilitate assistance for disabled persons to access the services.

Projects:
• CBR Project: CBR is multi-sector approach that addresses the five areas of health, education, livelihood, social and empowerment. Originally developed in the 1980s to give persons with disabilities access to rehabilitation in their own communities, this strategy uses predominantly local resources.
• Daycare Child Center: The Daycare Child Center is a project for offering a secure environment for vulnerable children aged 3-5 years old across 17 villages in Takeo province. The center helps to improve the daily living conditions of the communities the children live in, and provides daycare, nutritious meals and basic education. It also offers support to mothers about women’s and children’s rights through reading materials and counseling services.
• Inclusive Education Project: The goal of this project is to ensure that children with disabilities in Takeo Province are able to attend and achieve in school. Its specific objectives are children with disabilities have increased enrollment and attendance of education in mainstream primary schools in target districts and education system has improved quality of instruction for children with disabilities in inclusive classes. This project implemented in 18 target primary schools of Takeo Province such as 10 primary schools in Samrong District, 4 primary schools in Bati District and other 4 primary schools in Prey Kabas District.
• Vulnerable Pregnant Women Project: The main objective of this project is to ensure access to psychological and medical services for vulnerable and disadvantaged women during the delicate period of pregnancy, delivery and post-delivery.
• Disability Inclusive Community Project (DICP): Overall objective: To improve quality of lives of men, women, and children with disabilities and their families through rights-based and inclusive community approaches in 25 communes of 3 districts (Kandal and Prey Veng province) by 2016. Specific objective: To increase capability and enhance full participation of men, women, and children with disabilities in development efforts of parters in 25 communes of 3 districts in Kandal and Prey Veng province by December 2016. The specific problem to be addressed by the project and tangible benefits are linked to the development of the capacity of partners and relevant stakeholders to integrate disability issue into their development plans, to empower people with disabilities by strengthening advocacy, networking, coordination of rehabilitation, livelihood initiative by 2016.
