Sangopita – A Shelter for Care is an organization started in 2003 for providing a shelter full of care and welfare for people with mental or physical disabilities who are often taken as liability by their families. This feeling of neglect towards them also leads them to having a complex and further deteriorates their health conditions.
Sangopita is registered under Bombay Public Charitable Trust as an NGO in 2003. Started working with 2 children and provides care to its over 60 beneficiaries today through the two centers run by the organization.
Sangopita is an organization that epitomizes passionate and involved parenting where each member is helped to reach his/her maximum potential and more importantly, is treated with dignity. Sangopita offers lifetime residential care to the physically, mentally and sensory impaired and for those with Autism, from mainly the lower socio-economic and impoverished strata of society. Besides residential care at village Bendshil, Sangopita also runs a Day Care centre and special school for the physically and mentally impaired, in Badlapur, near Mumbai.

Mission Statement
Provision of quality care for the ones in need of special care whether mentally or physically and making them a productive member of the society by giving them support functionally, socially, educationally, vocationally and health wise.

Services:
• Affectionate care giving: Our trained caregivers look after the children 24/7 and attend to their needs.
• Special education: Special educators teach the children at their own pace using multi media
• Welfare Centre for mentally retarded children: We have special facilities at our rehabilitation centre for mentally retarded children so that they live well happily with dignity.
• Medical unit: Monitoring physical health, training in personal hygiene, attending minor ailments and providing regular medication are by the trained medical unit staff
• Therapy centre: Qualified professionals take regular sessions in physiotherapy, Speech therapy and Occupational therapy
• Innovative supportive programme: We offer an array of supportive programs that help build better lives for the affected persons.
• Vocational training: Special need adults are engaged and trained in making various products like candles, incense sticks, greeting cards etc.
• Therapeutic Yoga: Children are trained to perform yoga exercises in a joyful way under guidance
• Extra curricular activities: Hidden talents in the special children are recognized and encouraged for development such as dancing, singing, drawing, sports etc.
