Über uns

Matungu Community Development Charity (MCDC) is a Community Based Organization (CBO) founded in 2011 and registered as a self-help group. MCDC is a vibrant and innovative grass-root organization that spearheads initiatives for sustainable communities around Kakamega County.

Vision
We envision a society where everyone enjoys lifelong health and a life free from suffering.

Mission
To improve the health, education, economy, environment, social capital and personal capital of our community members. We accomplish this through the research, proposal and implementation of public health programs.

Objectives
• To facilitate grass-root proactive involvement in sustainable development through the provision of education, training and advocacy on various thematic issues important to Kakamega County communities.
• To assist with capacity building of organized groups in both urban and rural communities.
• To reduce absolute poverty through the initiation of environmental friendly enterprises which are also beneficial for human health.
• To promote natural resource conservation.
• To promote sustainable farming techniques that will improve food security and help us to better adapt to climate change.
• To share health education and promote positive behavior change with youth and community members.
• To address the impacts of HIV/AIDS on orphans and vulnerable children and women.

Projects
• Maxing Out Micro-Loans: Improving Livelihood for Youth and Women in Rural Western Kenya: Providing business training, mentoring and micro-loans to youth and women for ecologically-sound small business start-ups that contribute to the improvement of local food security, nutrition, social capital and environmental health.
• Fortified Staple Flours in Kenya: Training young farmers to grow micro-nutrient rich porridge flour, maize meal flour and other healthy grains fortified with nutrients that will be easily accessed by and affordable to rural populations.
• Sustainable Fertilizing: Raising rabbits to use their poop as fertilizer to increase food security, decrease malnutrition and adapt to climate change.
• HIV/AIDS Advocacy: The Matungu Community Development Charity currently distributes condoms at no charge to anyone in the community from their office in Munami. The group also distributes at no charge reading material surrounding the prevention and treatment/management of HIV/AIDS.
• Fees for the Future Project: Our goals for this project in order of priority are: a) To pay the school fees and provide uniforms for the most needy children, those who for want of funds cannot at present go to school, b) To help pay for the school fees of those children whose parents cannot pay them in full, which currently jeopardizes the quality of the education they receive.
• Education Programs: Entrepreneurship Training, CBO (Community Based Organization) Training, Computer Training
• Agricultural Training: The Matungu Community Development Charity trained thirty men and women in the use of organic farming, mixed farming (the use of livestock and crops in tandem),agro-forestry (planting crops with trees to reduce soil erosion), the growing of curcurbits and fish-farming (aquaculture).
