Über uns

Nksoianthi Foundation of and for Blind and Partially Sighted is a NGO that works within the Blind and Partially Sighted communities of the Eastern Cape to Break the Barriers of Blindness.
Nkosinathi Foundation was founded in Port Elizabeth by a small group of blind people, on 27th May 1948. The dedicated group recognised the need for rehabilitation and adaptive skills services, as well as support for those who have recently lost their sight.

Vision
Our Vision at Nksoianthi Foundation is to have empowered and independent blind and partially sighted people fully integrated into society.

Mission
Our Mission is to provide a supportive, opportunity filled and comprehensive rehabilitation model to raise awareness which enables blind and partially sighted people to reach independence, develop their potential and overcome the challenges associated with loss of vision.

Aims
• To create impactful awareness about the rights and needs of blind and partially sighted persons, as well as to create useful and wide spread prevention awareness.
• To provide a support structure to blind and partially people, their families and relevant service providers.
• To provide a comprehensive rehabilitation programme, which addresses the changing needs and assists to overcome the challenges associated with significant loss of sight.

Main Services
At Nkosinathi Foundation the services we provide are comprehensive, innovative, tailored and extensive. Our model consists of four main projects which aim to provide our clients with support, guidance, skills and tools that help them lead fulfilling, meaningful and independent lives.
• Urban Rehabilitation for Adults through Emotional Support and Living Skills Training
• Rural Rehabilitation for Adults and Children through Emotional Support and Living Skills Training
• Blind Children´s Rehabilitation and Development: In order to provide fully comprehensive and relevant services, we categorise our children´s programmes into three groups which is tailored to the different age groups needs.
• Preparation for Employment & Tertiary Education for Blind and Partially Sighted People
• Additional Offerings: Comprehensive Audio Library; Assistance through Social Relief; Internet Café; Nurse Training & Awareness; Income Generating Training; Advocacy and Awareness; Short Term Accommodation; Vegetable Garden; Training to professionals, companies, organisations and interested parties; Trauma Debriefing; Low Vision Resource Centre
