The "Gruppo Foca Monaca Italia" was founded in 1976 by WWF Italy to promote the safeguarding of the last monk seals still present in some Italian coastal areas.
The association constant engagement throughout the years has been to preserve among the public opinion the consciousness that such precious mammals still inhabit our seas, even if their presence is almost invisible.
To date the Gruppo Foca Monaca includes volunteers with different professional profiles, all engaged in activities to the species´ protection.
The Mediterranean Monk Seal is one of the rarest mammals in the world: about 250- 300 animals still survive mainly in the Aegean and along the southern Turkish coast.
Emanuele Coppola is the head of the Gruppo Foca Monaca Italia.
For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
