Über uns

Ganga is a society registered as charitable institution in India with the mission to educate, organize and empower rural and urban poor to live a life with dignity and self-respect in healthy environment. Ganga envisions the establishment of a healthy, progressive, just and equitable society in conserved and safe environment.

The priority sectors in Ganga work are sustainable livelihood, environment conservation, women and child development and health. Whereas women´s empowerment programs through formation of SHGs and Mahila Mandals have been receiving high priority.

The Ganga organization based in Lucknow, is implementing its activities in and around Lucknow city for the last 10 years. It has involved women of weaker sections in its activities and formed their self help groups and while developing their skills for Zari zardozi work (the craft for which Lucknow is always known for and has linked them with market with the help of various funders as described above.

Area of expertise
The areas of Ganga Organization expertise are – research, capacity building, networking, awareness building and community mobilization. Ganga works under the thematic area of empowerment. Its empowerment program aims to strengthen people´s capacity to participate more actively in the fight against poverty and exclusion. It does this by involving the community directly in the process of assessing local needs and rights, identifying what would be the most appropriate solutions and developing plans which respond to these.
