Über uns

The Gender, Law and Development Institute (INSGENAR) was created as a non-profit civil association in 1994 in the city of Rosario, Argentina. INSGENAR is an organization, that year after year tries to grow, taking on new challenges from within its institutional framework, specializing in socio-juridical themes from a multidisciplinary perspective.

The unfair distribution of wealth and resources, the weakness of the fragile democracies and the discrimination of women are some of the main causes of violations of human rights in its part of the world. For these reasons it works for the defense, advocacy and education of human rights from a holistic gender-sensitive perspective.

INSGENAR puts special attention on the defense of women´s and girl´s human rights, so that all individuals can enjoy a dignified life, free from discrimination, as the international and regional system of human rights guarantee.

Its mission is, to foment real democracies, that are based on the full civil participation of men and women.
It promotes the change in attitudes, processes and cultural practices of institutions and individuals, so that human rights can be implemented in people´s daily lives without sexual, age, ethnic, class and all other kinds of discrimination.

Human rights education is as an important tool for the empowerment of citizenship. Being aware of our human rights, is the first step in bridging the gap existing between the rights outlined in international treaties and the possibility of enjoying those rights in the local arena, as much in the public sphere as in the private one. Permanent activities are:

- training in human rights education from a gender perspective,
- training in gender equality; counseling in public policy planning,
- editing and dissemination of materials related to the prevention of domestic violence,
- counselling to women working in the field of health in relation to union problems,
- permanent member of the advisory council of the department of women of the subsecretariat for the promotion of society of the municipality of Rosario.

One of its goals is, to promote an agenda committed to the improvement of legal and social conditions of women and girls, in order to fully exercise their citizenship and enjoy their rights.

For other net participants we can offer expert guidance through trained staff, procure expert information, give an expert opinion and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
