Qui sommes-nous

Gaia Trust is a Danish-based charitable association founded in 1987 on the initiative of Ross and Hildur Jackson, with the intention of supporting the transition to a sustainable and more spiritual future society through grants and proactive initiatives. Gaia Trust is self-funded, primarily by earnings from its very successful daughter company Gaiacorp, a foreign currency manager and advisory firm that was sold off in 2000. Since its founding Gaia Trust has supported over 300 projects in more than 40 countries.

Our Dream—the Grand Ecovillage Vision: We are one undivided whole on Earth and the healing of Mother Earth is a joint responsibility of all humankind. The song tells us how we need to redefine our Western worldview into a more holistic one and find a new vision for the future.

The vision is for all people to live in settlements containing all elements of society much like a holograph, where every part contains the whole. Plant and animal systems reflect this manifold/variety. Everything in the larger society and in nature may be experienced within walking distance by children, the aged and the weak, so that they may live full lives. It is a place where God feels at home and where you would like to return in you next life. It is a place where we live according to the values of the major world religions of love, peace and solidarity with all. Where we celebrate and respect 4 billion years of evolution on the planet.

The mission of Gaia Trust, according to its founding statutes, is "to promote a new, global consciousness which sees our entire planet as a living organism with humankind as an integral part of the entity."

A record of the grants and awards made to date in fulfilling this mission is available on our website. The single largest area of support to date has been the ecovillage movement, in particular the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN).

Another major area of grants was the permaculture movement, which is closely related to the ecovillage movement. For several years Gaia Trust sponsored the first permaculture course in countries, which had not yet been exposed to this very important part of designing a sustainable future. Otherwise, the grants cover a wide range of worthy projects representing many facets of the ongoing gradual planetary transformation.

In recent years, education in sustainability has become a major activity. We have supported the development of an Ecovillage Design Education, a 4-week education endorsed by UNITAR and currently being taught in ecovillages around the world. It will become an on-line education offering soon in cooperation with the Open University of Catalonia in Spain. Teaching material in available for gratis download at www.gaiaeducation.org.

Gaia Trust no longer accepts unsolicited grant applications, as its funds remaining are too small to justify a regular grants program. However, Gaia Trust will continue to support a few, smaller projects on its own initiative, particularly in the area of education, and will maintain its website as a source of information.

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, deliver a lecture, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
