Qui sommes-nous

The Nagenahiru Foundation is a non-profit organization, registered with the Government of Sri Lanka, and has been operating in Sri Lanka since 1991.

The main activities of the Nagenahiru Foundation are addressing the issues of environmental destruction and the poverty of the people of Sri Lanka.

The main task of the organization is to promote and encourage the communities to protect and conserve their environment through strong educational, training and action programs which are coupled with the introduction of environmentally sustainable livelihood options for the people from poor socio-economic backgrounds.

We are engaged in a very important project involving the post-tsunami restoration of mangrove ecosystems and the rebuilding of livelihoods in the communities devastated by the Indian Ocean tsunami in December 2004. This massive nature conservation project is facilitated by the European Commission and the Global Nature Fund, based in Germany.
Also we are very busy in designing a project proposal on the conservation and restoration of the endemic flowering plants and shrubs which are under severe threat, due to unplanned human activities and speedy agricultural development. This proposed project will be located in the environmentally very sensitive District of Nuwara Eliya in the hill country of Sri Lanka.

We are very much interested in exchanging knowledge, skills, experience and available resources in implementing this project successfully for the benefit of the global population.

We are seeking collaboration from organizations and persons engaged in environmental activities to promote our new project.

For other net participants we can offer overnight facilities. Also we can offer expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information, deliver a lecture and establish new contacts in the field of environmental conservation projects. We will be able to provide a base for conducting research and studies for the environmentalist in other parts of the world.
