Über uns

Established in 2001, The Roberta Felix Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for handicapped children and children who live in extreme poverty in the rural Pacific coast counties of Aguirre and Parrita in Costa Rica. We serve children from such towns as Parrita, Quepos, Manuel Antonio, Naranjito, Villa Nueva, Londres, and Matapalo. The Roberta Felix Foundation is funded 100% by private donations and has been able to accomplish the following:

- New construction of the Roger L. Evans Development Center where physical, speech, and occupational therapies are provided for handicapped children in Quepos.
- Support for classrooms built for the handicapped in area public schools.
- Disaster relief for recent flooding and homelessness in Aguirre country

Programs and projects:

C.A.I.R.E: Centro de Atencion Integral Roger Evans (CAIRE) is a development center built by Fundacion Roberta Felix to provide physical and speech therapies, and specialized education. CAIRE was inaugurated on September 24th, 2004 and will serve as a central location in the community for the disabled children of Aguirre and Parrita to receive care and education. Therapy services are provided by volunteer students and staff from Universidad de Santa Paula. CAIRE also features a library with books for children and th eir parents. Zaidy Barrantes Mora serves as director at CAIRE in addition to her duties as a teacher of children with special needs.

Classroom for disabled students: In June 2003, The Felix Foundation completed a special classroom at the elementary school in Parrita for children with severe disabilities. In February 2005, the Costa Rican government will staff the classroom for the first time.

The Felix Foundation sponsors numerous activities throughout Aguirre County, including: donations of shoes, clothing, food , wheelchairs, glasses, hearing aids, school materials, school uniforms, diapers and other needed items. We offer free orthopedic shoes for all who need them, workshops for parents with handicapped children, workshops for teachers and others who deal with the handicapped, crisis intervention for the extremely poor, abuse intervention for handicapped children living in abusive situations.

For other net participants we can offer overnight facilities. Further we can offer expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, deliver a lecture and procure expert information in the following field: children´s issues and those regarding the handicapped. The foundation is supported by private donations and volunteers. We can help some other organizations develop programs for volunteers and sometimes provide funding.
