About us

The Ökodorf-Projekt (project ecological village) set it as its goal to establish a socio-ecological model settlement in Poppau for about 300 tall and small people.

Apart from the settlement in Poppau where a small community of pioneers live, there is above all the "Ökodorf-Projektzentrum" (project centre ecological village) (our organizational "basic depot"), an associated decentralized community of about 70 people, a nationwide association of supporters of "Freundeskreis Ökodorf e.V." (circle of friends of ecological village) and in the function of supporters of the project the "Wohnungs- und Siedlungsgenossenschaft Ökodorf e.G." (housing and settlement cooperative ecological village).

Since our beginning in the Ökodorf-Projektzentrum in 1993, apart from different housing and working groups in the neighbouring community, among others the following independent fields developed: guesthouses and seminar organization, free school, gardener' courtyard, carpenter's workshop, bookkeeping office, distribution of books and publishing house, clay work company, market stand "Altmärker Fladenbäckerei" (round flat bread bakery), networking office, food-coop, independent craftsmen.

In the Ökodorf (ecological village) in Poppau we are striving for an integration of all areas of life (housing, work, supply and waste disposal, culture, education, health ?) together with a far-reaching self-responsibility and self-supply. The manifold human activities shall take place in small manageable and linked up circles of life so that the ecological and social consequences of one's own acting can be experienced directly. We try to achieve an intensive dialogue with the region as well as the interested public throughout Germany and we hope to prepare the ground for an ecological village which is well embedded in this region.

We offer overnight accommodation for other net participants. Apart from that, we can communicate contacts in the field of "living in community" and in this regard we also offer a book on 365 European communities which was published by us.
