About us

Rungg was established to revive the cultivation, production and use of natural Indigo and other dyes in textiles and other products in regions of South Asia, where these were in common use, not only in traditional crafts but also in commercial production.
A growing concern for the environment, increasing awareness of the urgent need to protect it and the desire to contribute towards stemming and hopefully reversing its alarmingly rapid deterioration resulted in its small but determined beginning, a pilot project initiated in 1997. It was then formalised as Rungg, a natural dyes revival organisation.

Rungg worked from 1997-2002 on this pilot project for the cultivation and production of natural Indigo with the Provincial Department of Forests. The project has been inactive since 2003, because of a scarcity of water in the project area. While a team has been trained in processing, which may act as resource persons for small farmers, marketing still poses a challenge.

For other net participants we can offer overnight facilities. Further we can deliver a lecture and procure expert information in the following fields: revival of natural Indigo, public- private partnership in technical education.
