Qui sommes-nous

Africatrust Networks aims to provide tropical voluntary work experience in Africa for opinion formers and decision makers of the future, in order to experience the economic, social and cultural in-balance on this only home planet. The first Africatrust volunteer programmes were founded in 1994. The current and future programmes are now each to be managed by a family of good African friends and colleagues. The concept of having "a bridge" linking cultures is still fundamental to the programme.

Africatrust Networks (ATN) is the successor to St. David´s (Africa) Trust and is an informal partnership of volunteer programmes in West and North Africa. Each project is managed by an in-country registered non government organization.

The volunteer programme in Ghana is with disadvantaged young people in rural and urban communities. The work is helping to make a difference within rural schools and urban orphanage. The programme which was started in Ghana in 1995 by St. David's (Africa) Trust is continued by Africatrust Networks.

The initial two-week induction course takes place in Cape Coast before the team move to Kumasi, the capital of the ancient Ashanti Kingdom. The informal, but important induction course covers health, dress codes, social interaction, history, regional language instruction and some Ghanaian general knowledge.

In each programme there will be opportunities for a variety of volunteer work at different locations. Volunteer teams will be mixed and may include participants from America, Europe and Africa. There will be selection interviews, a need for references and pre-departure briefings for the teams and their family / friends as guests. Support is everything.

For other net participants we can procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
