Qui sommes-nous

Thabang Children´s Project is a project run by Thabang Children´s Home Trust, a South African Non Profit Organization, that aims to meet the needs of children affected by HIV/Aids and Poverty.
Thabang´s work is based upon the equality of all human beings independent of colour of skin, creed, gender and age, cultural and social background. All of the support provided by Thabang requires the participation of the ones being supported. Empowerment and upliftment of self-esteem and self-sufficiency is of first priority.

Mission
• To provide centres for the reception, care and development for orphans and vulnerable children and youth
• To empower the children in our care by providing educational opportunities and skills development.
• To empower family structures through health education and home-based care services, advocacy to families and communities, through partnership with other stake holders

Vision
Thabang is an organisation that empowers children, families and communities to restore their dignity and independence

It is located near Thabazimbi, Limpopo and runs three operational arms.
• Thabang Community Care Centre in Smash Block, an informal settlement of about 17,500 people living in tin shacks without power or sewage. The centre runs Home-based Care, Orphan care, support groups and a community vegetable garden.
• Thabang Childrens Place of Safety that accommodates up to 24 children that have no one to looks after them: abandoned or abused babies, girls up to the age of 18 and boys up to the age of 10 years.
• Thabang Youth Centre that accommodates up to 16 boys, that committed poverty related crimes or suffer from lack of parental care, like street boys.

Underlying concept of Thabang is to assist children in a variety of ways by having three facilities. Prevention always comes prior to intervention. In practice that means, that destitute families or households are first counselled and supported, before an admission of children into residential care is considered.
Orphans are being supported by Thabang Community Care Centre in Smash Block. This is done by providing counseling and food to the people who look after the orphans. Currently about 65 orphans are being looked after.

Tessa White is a Project Manager at Thabang Children´s Project.

For other net participants we can offer overnight facilities. Also we can establish new contacts in the field of Child & Youth Care Work & Community Work.
