About us

TAYEN is a non-profit youth led organization that engages youth across Tanzania to solve environmental and youth development challenges by implementing community environmental action projects and sustainable development programs. Our mission is to inspire, educate and engage youth in solving Tanzania’s most pressing environmental problems through community action projects. We engage youth in our programs by building Youth Environmental Networks and Youth Associations in schools, Universities and in communities. Today, TAYEN has established more than 25 Youth Groups in schools and communities reaching more than 5,000 youths. TAYEN programs mainly focus on engaging youth under 30 in conservation and management of natural resources and building their skills to create lasting impact in communities they live. Our programs prepare the next generation of community leaders.

TAYEN has been recognized nationally and internationally with over 5 International Awards including Winner of African Climate Change Fund competition in 2010 with Global Green Grants, YouthActionet Global Fellow Award with International Youth Foundation (IYF) in 2011, Young Environmental Leader Award in 2012 with BothEnds, 2013 Winner of African International Achievers Award (AfIA Awards) under Environmental Protection category and IREX 2014 Community Solutions Program Partner from Tanzania with Department of State of United States of America (USA).

TAYEN has also been active in presenting youth development issues in various local and international conferences and dialogues on various topics including Poverty, Agriculture, Youth Unemployment, Governance and Accountability, Health, Climate Change working and partnering with government and international institutions like United Nations, AU, World Bank, USAID, WWF, OXFAM, FANRPAN, Global Voices, ESRF and many others.
