About us

Nazareth House is a non-profit, charitable organisation, which has served the communities in South Africa since 1880. The Sisters of Nazareth have opened their doors to the poorest of the poor in caring for the sick, destitute, aged and under privileged, orphaned children.

Mission statement
We, the Sisters of Nazareth, aim to share the love of God through our ministries of care and education and our openness to respond to the needs of the times.

Our work
• Nazareth House provides medical and relational care regardless of religious affiliation to the most vulnerable elderly and children.
• Our comprehensive approach ensures that we address all levels of Children´s and Elderly development and health, albeit on an intellectual, emotional and/or physical level.
• Our interventions are both programmatic and systematic in nature as it allows children to live healthy and contributing lives, regardless of their circumstances. Through our interventions, we have prevented these forgotten groups of children and elderly from experiencing further abandonment, abuse and ridicule and have created a homely environment. A place they can call “home".

Our services:
• Accommodation and care for the aged in all the houses
• A specialised Dementia Care Home in Cape Town and Durban
• Care for children whose ages range from birth to the teenage years in Johannesburg and Cape Town
• Accommodation and care for severely disabled children as well as a last resting place for children with terminal conditions in Cape Town
• A clinic and a hospice for the treatment of TB and HIV patients in the Johannesburg House
• A Home Based Care hospice for the treatment of TB and HIV patients in Warrenton, near the 14 Streams farm
• A creché on the 14 Streams farm
• Larmenier Villages for retired independent living in Cape Town, Pretoria, Harare and Johannesburg
