About us

School4Life, founded in 2011, is a charity registered in Switzerland and Germany working in close cooperation with our local partner CBSM Kimilili in Kenya, a registered Kenyan charity. The charitable association "School4Life" provides free and high quality education to 800 orphans and needy children in rural Kimilili, Kenya.

Our Mission
Improving the learning environment while offering a free and high quality education to orphans and vulnerable children in rural Kimilili.
School4Life supports the running of the school by paying for teachers´ salaries, school lunches and all major bills. At the same time, we invest in infrastructure to improve the learning environment of the children.

Programmes
• Kindergarden: School4Life’s Kindergarten serves children aged 3–5. Our overarching goal is to ensure children are cognitively, socially, and emotionally ready to begin primary school
• Primary School: At School4Life we want to develop self-reliant students who are disciplined and are able to express themselves, while at the same time providing a well-rounded education experience. At School4Life, we want to enable vulnerable children by providing primary education without having to face the issue of paying such hidden fees. About 50% of our students pay no fees at all if they have been admitted through our social programme, while the remaining students pay a very small amount. We currently educate around 450 pupils.
• Secondary School: The School4Life (CBSM Kimilili) is a private school that receives no governmental support. The cost of running the school is mainly covered by our supporters and by the local community. At School4Life we run a social programme to ensure that children in-need receive a high quality education free of charge. School4Life currently provides secondary education to a total of 174 students: 82 boys and 92 girls.
• Special Needs School: The School4Life Special Needs School is unique in Bungoma District. It opened in summer 2016 by transforming one of the Kindergarten classrooms to a Special Needs Section. In order to encourage interaction amongst one another, the Special Needs Section is integrated with the Kindergarten. Wheelchair accessible toilets have also been built and two specially trained teachers hired. These trained teachers support the mental and physical development of these special needs children by guiding them through various areas such as: math, language and communication, social training, creative exercises, environmental awareness, music and movement, and perception activities, all while leaving enough time for free play. To prepare the children for potential life as an independent person, the teachers offer weaving, sewing, jewelry making, modeling, drawing, cookery, hairdressing, grooming, housekeeping, and child care lessons.
• Orphanage: School4Life supports an orphanage called Children´s Home in Kimilili in which 30 children have discovered the security of having a place to call home. School4Life places a large emphasis on the education and empowerment of these children.
