About us

Tanzania Pastoralist Community Forum (TPCF) is a non-partisan, non-governmental, non-profit making organization, registered in 2008 and working in Tanzania to advance the rights of pastoralist peoples in the country. Those peoples are the Maasai, Barbaig, Akie, Taturu and Hadzabe.

TPCF is a National Forum for the CSOs operating within Tanzania. The Forum was officially established in 2007 by pastoralist elite & others primarily addressing issues concerning policy advocacy, human rights in particular Indigenous peoples and specifically women rights and other emerging issues like climate change.

Mission statement
Working with others to advance pastoralist/livestock keepers legal rights in Tanzania, possible through networking and collective actions

Vision
equitable and justice sensitive pastoralist community in Tanzania

Area of focus:
• Human rights
• Governance and
• Land rights

What we do:
• Human rights: By connecting pastoralist communities, in exchange of ideas concerning the access (or inaccessibility) of their legal rights, we facilitate capacity building training on land rights, resources rights, both to access and to control. Other rights are social services such as education, health and cooperate social responsibilities.

• Governance: Advocating for better governance includes having pastoralist members in the decision making bodies and development of project planning and its implementation. The participation of the pastoralist community in the country governance is vital however. The fact that they have been historically marginalized has caused historical injustices. This is a gap that needs to be bridged to realize a better society.

• Land rights; promoting land rights protection for the Indigenous communities in Tanzania, by empowering community members in particular villages councils to understand the laws that govern land matters in Tanzania

Joseph Ole Parsambei is the Executive Director for Tanzania Pastoralist Community Forum (TPCF) and he is an experience fellow for both local matters pertaining pastoralists, but also an expert lawyer in human rights matters.

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
