Sobre nosotros

The Centre for Disadvantaged Girls (CDG) and Malkia Foundation were created to help make the lives of disadvantaged girls and women in the community better by empowering them with education and skills for enterprise development. CDG was launched in 2002 and registered as a CBO in 2009. The Malkia Foundation was approved by the Kenyan government as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in 2014.

Our programs are anchored on five pillars:
• Education and training
• Poverty eradication
• Women´s health,
• Women empowerment
• Social enterprise development.

We work with girls and women from the poorest of the poor backgrounds together with those affected and or infected with HIV/AIDS. We believe that anyone can improve their lot in life, given the chance and opportunity.

Our vision is to create a safe haven where girls, women, and youth in our society can identify with their own and work together to prepare themselves to face the world financially, educationally, and socially—and live healthy lives.

We aim to achieve this by:
• Ensuring that willing young women who dropped out of school because of poverty-related reasons get another chance to finish their education
• Offering sexual, economic, and social counseling to young women
• Providing a forum to make new friends and access mentors
• Delivering financial support and services to members to uplift their living standards
• Equipping them with the knowledge and skills to fight poverty and HIV/AIDS
• Promoting hard work both inside and outside the classroom
• Providing income-producing skills training to women and youth in the community

CDG and Malkia currently provide the following services:
• Pay school fees for girls and their siblings
• Establish Girl Power Clubs in participating schools, which submit monthly progress reports to our office
• Convene focus group discussions about the services, training, and supports women and girls receive
• Providing life skills and business training to women and girls
• Monitor each beneficiary´s educational, social, and financial progress

Long-term goals for the future:
• A vocational college complex that offers courses for the youth in mass communication, computer studies, carpentry, tailoring, catering and masonry among others
• A hospital that provides quality, affordable medical care to a community that is too poor to access medical attention when ill
• A radio and television station that delivers news and content focused on the girl child in Kenya and around the world
