Qui sommes-nous

Every year, great quantities of fruit go straight from the tree onto the compost heap. Jan Schierhorn's idea was, instead of letting the fruit rot, to invite the public and ex-farmers to donate apples which could then be processed into delicious juice. If this is then sold, it can generate jobs.
The concept of "Money Grows on Trees" is that apples which would otherwise be left on the trees are harvested by groups of handicapped people, under qualified supervision. (The Elbe Workshops are a permanent partner). The fruit is then processed in a slow-food plant, producing naturally cloudy juice. We sell this to companies and private customers from our own distribution centre.
Our aim is thus to create jobs for the handicapped. The entire proceeds go back into the project to pay the workers. With the support of the Körber Foundation our project became a limited company in September 2010 – non profit-making, of course.
Projects:
Social Days: In 2011, together with kindergartens and Hamburg companies, we started to run picking days. These "social days" show children or workers in large companies how easy social involvement can be. We like to organise these social days, since they raise visiblity and enable very different people to come together – people who would otherwise not normally meet.
• Trade fairs and markets: For us, it is not just about juice. We want to create situations which naturally connect people with and without handicap. Trade fairs are a good way to do this. That is why we take part in gourmet fairs such as Gastro-Vision and offer our juice at food markets. We are honoured that the Hamburg State Representation in Berlin invites us every year to their Summer Festival, to present our idea to a wider public.

On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date information and contacts in the field of our work.
