Sobre nosotros

Kenya Correspondents Association (KCA) is a national journalists’ organization with mandates that include enhancing the professional capacity of journalists through continuous skills development and training, advocacy for journalists’ rights and press freedom within the media industry. KCA is a journalists organization with membership across the country - Kenya. Through our membership, we help project the voices of communities and different stakeholders with regard to accountability, good governance, human rights, service delivery, environmental conservation and climate change among others.
We are a key stakeholder within the media industry and work very closely with other media organizations and civil society actors.
KCA was launched in August l997. It was formed to provide a platform for media correspondents to interact, build solidarity and enhance their profile and recognition in the media industry. The association is meant to help correspondents’ address and improve their professional and welfare needs. This will in turn contribute to professionalism in the media industry.
The resolve to form the association was built through a series of training workshops for the correspondents with support from Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAF) through the Media Development Association (MDA). The workshops, which brought together correspondents from all provinces, provided them with chance for experience sharing and reflection on the challenges they face in the course of duty.
KCA has identified 70 journalists who are undergoing training to generate stories to counter disinformation that is rampant in the society with the increasing usage of social media. The trained journalists will identify areas in their counties on disinformation and produce stories with long shelf life to counter the disinformation by ensuring they are factual and pass the test of fact checking tools. The association has identified a pool of fact checkers and editors who will be assigned to the identified journalists to support them in writing quality stories on disinformation.
