Qui sommes-nous

We are young people with and without refugee experience who came together in 2016 to form the Escape Witnesses association (Zeugen der Flucht e.V.). Then as now, the debates about escape and migration were often characterized by prejudices, fears and generalized reporting. Our belief is that by exchanging ideas on a level footing and talking to each other instead of about each other, we can make the topic tangible and ensure greater understanding. We are currently represented at 5 locations.

Our vision
We contribute to anti-racist educational work by creating encounters between refugees and young people. We see our work as an important contribution to an open and democratic society without prejudice and racism.

Our mission
Those who talk to each other and share personal experiences will take on different perspectives and better understand other people's life situations. Through our work, we create encounters between refugees and young people and are therefore committed to combating racism. Our openness makes the topics of flight and migration approachable and understandable.

Our range
The association enables direct exchange between refugees and interested groups (e.g. school classes).
• Exchange with refugees: Our workshops (on the topics escape or arrival) consist of a thematic introduction by a volunteer using an interactive PowerPoint presentation of around 15-25 minutes. The focus is on the subsequent exchange in the form of an open discussion group in which usually 1-2 refugees answer questions and talk about their experiences.
• Project days: The focus here is ideally on personal exchange between students and refugees who report on their personal experiences. Examples of the content: Reasons for fleeing, asylum procedures, integration, racism, media reporting on the subject of flight and migration.
• Child-friendly workshops: In our child-friendly workshops, we have adapted our offerings specifically for younger students.
• Seminars for colleges and universities: In collaboration, a teaching concept can be developed by and for learners/interested parties. Our offering ranges from pure information transfer to didactic content.
• Individual exchange: We want to open our current range of teaching units and project days to clubs and other initiatives/institutions (for example FSJ seminars, youth groups or senior cafés). We also welcome individual cooperation requests and new ideas.

On request, we can provide advice for other network participants, give a presentation, and provide current specialist information and contacts in the field of our work.
