Qui sommes-nous

In the SEGENA association, founded in 2019, we are committed to promoting German-Namibian cooperation. To this end, we would like to develop and support projects with a social and ecological character in Namibia, as well as in Germany (Berlin/Brandenburg). Our projects primarily revolve around the topics of sustainable food security, resource and climate protection, and environmental education.
"SEGENA - Social-ecological association for the promotion of the German-Namibian cooperation" has extensive know-how in environmental technology as well as skills in the area of agricultural vocational training. We are in close mutual contact with companies, research institutions, authorities and non-governmental institutions and work with conviction, knowledge, experience and many people towards one goal: sustainable development through the exchange of knowledge and technology between Germany and Namibia.

Our focus is on:
• Food security through sustainable, climate-adapted and innovative agricultural methods (e.g. hydroponics and aquaponics)
• Water supply; Waste avoidance and reduction: recycling; alternative energy supply and climate protection
• Implementation of scientific/cultural events and research projects, seminars/workshops
• Education of children, young people and adults; knowledge and technology transfer; support for educational institutions

Aquaponics: Aquaponics describes a sustainable farming process that combines the raising of fish (aquaculture) and the cultivation of plants using hydroponics (without soil). This is a circular process in which the water from fish farming is reused for crop cultivation. The fish's excretions contain toxic ammonium, which is converted by bacteria into nitrates, a plant nutrient. The fish excrement serves as fertilizer for the plants and the purified water flows back into the fish tank.

Projects:
• DHPS Windhoek hydroponic project: In February 2023, the hydroponic system was built in the DHPS school garden. This is intended not only to supply the cafeteria with fresh vegetables and herbs, but also to provide young people with knowledge about regional healthy food products and the relevance of sustainable projects.
• Producers DIY aquaponic system in Windhoek-Khomas
