Mutanda Trust Foundation Project is a non-governmental community-based organisation, located within areas of Lake Mutanda and Mutanda Community Island. This project is located in Kisoro district, serving the sub counties of Nyundo and Kirundo.
Mutanda Trust Foundation Project head offices are located at Kasharara Trading Centre, Kisharu Village, Rutaka Parish, Kirundo Sub County, Kisoro district, Uganda.

Wher we work
The area where we work faces challenges of low levels of education, lack of basic needs especially access to clean water, women lack household income, people destroy available forests, endangering wildlife especially bees which feed on flowers, at the same time acting as pollinators. The people travel for over ten kilometers to access the nearest health unit and sometimes the patients’ health worsens before reaching the health facilities. A big percentage uses firewood as an energy resource for cooking which leads to deforestation. Others use fossil fuels like kerosene which emits fumes to the atmosphere. Also, there are neglected Batwa (Pygmies) who used to live in the forest. When they were relocated from these forests, they were not given the required care.

What we do
• Education: We help in the education of orphaned groups and vulnerable people. Some of these children are educated at Christian Life Pre and Primary School, and others at Good Hope Pre and Primary School. When the children complete the primary level, some are educated at St. Johns Mutanda S.S for secondary education.
• We also train basic income generating skills to women in handcraft making, tailoring and knitting.
• Bee keeping: The locals are helped in bee keeping projects. This is to ensure conservation of bees which are the pollinators for the crops. They also obtain honey for sale and nutritional values.
• Batwa (Pygmies) support: We support the local Batwa (Pygmies) to live a sustainable life. This is through basic education and skills for earning a living. They are also sensitized on the importance of forest conservation and at the same time, helping them to live comfortably outside the forest. Their children are given education. These people are also trained in basic income generating activities.
• Our project also supports people in Lake Mutanda Community Island. These people face the challenge of lack of schools and health units. The lack of schools in the area results in children attending schools when they exceed the school-going age, which is six years for Primary One. They need to first grow older to be able to paddle canoes to the nearest school at the mainland.
• Due to lack of health units in the island, the sick people, including pregnant mothers are hammocked to a distance exceeding ten kilometers to find the nearest health unit, which is in Kisoro town.
