Sobre nosotros

Imaginer et Construire le Congo de Demain" (ICCOD-ONG), registered in 2022, is a non-profit indigenous Pygmy association created in Nyabibwe in the Kalehe Territory, in the Province of South Kivu in DR Congo by young people, women and adult indigenous Pygmies with the aim of promoting the well-being of the communities, the protection of the environment as well as the sustainable development of the communities.
We support and accompany indigenous populations, young green entrepreneurs, women, old and knowledge (traditional and or modern), new and imitative ideas offering and or likely to offer services, indigenous solutions and or innovative technologies and beneficial to improve the resilience of indigenous Pygmy and local communities in DR Congo in particular and in Africa in general.

ICCOD-ONG´s mission is to improve and strengthen the resilience of indigenous Pygmy and local communities to climate change in a perspective of poverty alleviation, environmental justice, protection of threatened and endangered species, protection of the environment, biodiversity and inclusive and resilient management of natural resources in DR Congo.

Our vision
• To see a socio-economically and ecologically sustainable Congo through the promotion and capitalization of traditional (indigenous) and modern (technological) knowledge and good practices that are resilient to climate change,
• To support forest peoples and indigenous organizations to promote an alternative vision of how forests should be managed and controlled, based on respect for the rights of the peoples who know them best,
• Through advocacy, concrete projects and capacity building activities, we support forest peoples so that they can deal directly with outside powers that have influence over their lands, lives and futures, with the hope that one day forests will be owned and controlled by the people who live there, ensuring sustainable livelihoods, equity and well-being for future generations,
• There are approximately 1.5 billion indigenous peoples and local communities worldwide and their customary lands represent 65% of the world's land area, and 80% of global biodiversity,
• Deforestation is the second driver of climate change, yet protecting forests poses a deadly risk to indigenous peoples and local communities.

Our objective:
Contribute to the improvement of policies and practices resulting in the denial of the rights of indigenous and local communities, the destruction of ecosystems and endangered wildlife as well as climate change which accentuate the misery of communities, constitute real threats to the balance, social, economic and environmental.

Activities:
• The establishment of local frameworks in the commitment to environmental protection by discouraging deforestation.
• Mobilizing, sensitizing, and raising awareness of communities to protect the environment.
• Promote responsible attitudes and behaviors among communities by respecting the gender approach in terms of environmental protection through concrete reforestation actions; to build a green planet together.
• To facilitate networking, support, information sharing and collaborative social action between communities.
• Provide general resources through research on environmental protection.
• Promote, advocate and protect Human Rights.
• Encourage and work in close collaboration with other organisations involved in environmental protection actions.
• Promote non-violence and gender equality in the management of natural resources.
• Ensure capacity building of communities on cross-cutting notions of environmental protection.
• Advocate with various partners to acquire the necessary funding to support community initiatives.
• Protect and conserve ecosystems to provide their ecosystem services by developing actions for the implementation of sustainable solutions for the protection and conservation of ecosystems.
