About us

Kalkal Human Rights Development Organization (KAHRDO) is a non-political, non-profit making organization founded on 7th July 2013 to respond to the current needs of the Somali people in order to sustain and strengthen human rights protection and advocacy, mainstream peace building & reconciliation, engage in climate change mitigation and adaptation, promote democracy & good governance, spearhead youth & women empowerment, advocate for environmental conservation and climate change, participate in people living with disabilities rights & advocacy, general protection, health and nutrition, WASH, livelihoods, education sponsorships and support humanitarian crisis in South/Central Somalia.
KAHRDO is run and managed by non-partisan local professionals whom have great experience practically & technically on various fields of capacities in the areas of community development and transformation. Over the years the organization has been growing too fast creating impacts to the communities it’s operating in Somalia.

We are dedicated human rights & peace protection that foster a sustainable future and lead to social and economic improvements in the community and foster progressive realization of human rights.

Goal
To build individuals and institutions which are enlightened about their rights and working together to enhance the development of their communities.

What we do
• Human rights protection and advocacy: Human rights monitoring (documentation and investigation) and to get redress survivors of human rights violation. Street and child soldier demobilization and reintegration; Awareness raising on human rights and social justice in regard of minorities/marginalized people to get their rights and justice; Protect migrants, refugees and IDPs; Prevent SGBV/GBV and FGC; Legal Aid.
• Disability rights & advocacy: KAHRDO strategy is to reduce the vulnerability of PwDs at community level through community mobilization and actions. To establish PwDs protection framework within community and community schools to manage emerging protection issues.
• General protection: Gender Based Violence (GBV) - To raise awareness of GBV; To get the participants to reflect on the link between GBV and protection in a given context; To discuss/share responses, strategies, and support mechanism to reduce and respond to incidents of GBV. Child protection - To generally promote the protection, development and welfare of children.
• Peace building and Reconciliation Program is an intervention that is designed to prevent recur or resumption of sub-clan or inter-clan violent conflict, and to maintain reconciliation of Somali society by creating a sustainable peace.
• Democracy & good governance
• Youth & women empowerment: To provide a safe, structured, and conducive environment for youth to express themselves
• Climate change mitigation and adaption: Environmental conservation; Water harvesting and conservation; Renewable energy project
• Education: Assist school going children to access quality basic education, through creation of a conducive learning environment, supporting training of teachers and empowering communities to manage schools and development of curriculum
• Disaster risk reduction
