About us

Nepal Association of the Blind (NAB) is a non-Governmental, non-profit making national organization of the blind, formally established in 1993.
It is also affiliated with World Blind Union (WBU) and Asian Blind Union (ABU), National Federation of Disabled Nepal and Social Welfare Council.

Its main purpose is to promote and protect rights and interests of the blind and partially sighted (BPS) people through lobbying and advocacy.

Vision
Blind and Partially Sighted (BPS) persons are enjoying self-reliant and dignified life by means of capable NAB.

Mission
Empowering the Blind and Partially Sighted (BPS) persons through advocacy, capacity building and practical work so that their rights will be fulfilled and living conditions are improved.

Goals
To organize and empower Blind and Partially Sighted (BPS) people to establish their rights as mentioned by UN Convention on the Rights of Person with Disability (UNCRPD).

Objectives
• To increase awareness through right based advocacy for BPS people and ensure meaningful participation, accessibility, and justice.
• To increase access to education and develop blind friendly information communication technology.
• To rehabilitate and generate employment opportunities for BPS people.
• To make access to health services and treatment for BPS people.
• To strengthen NAB organisational capacity and expand gradually throughout the country.
• To establish and develop networking with national and international organizations to enhance better cooperation and coordination.

What we do
• Workshops and Seminars for promoting human rights, inclusive education, voters’ education, disaster risk reduction, inclusion of BVI people in development mainstream, accessibility etc, capacity building, employment promotion, income generation support, blindness prevention and controlling of blindness, education support, trainings for the empowerment of BPS people through institution/community based rehabilitation (CBR).
• At the central level, association runs computer training, music training, mobility, counseling, audio books production, Braille books printing and women hostel.
• The association encourages the branches in conducting vocational training, saving and credit activities, sensitization training, leadership training etc in order to achieve the sustainability. NAB has started registering all the branches in the local district administration office.

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
