About us

Soli Cuba is a non-profit organisation and part of the international Solidarity with Cuba movement. We have supported the health system for many years. Despite great difficulties, it is still exemplary for Latin America. Our support consists of supplying hospitals in the Camagüey Province with medicines, medical apparatus, consumables and articles of daily use, in order to begin to fill the gaps caused by the decades-long and still existent blockade by their American neighbours.

Beyond this, we support kindergartens and promote youth projects, as well as environmentally friendly projects in the area of education and schooling. We have been working on projects since 1989, i.e. since the break up of the CMEA countries. For the first two years this was in loose cooperation, from 1991 as the Soli Cuba group. We formed an association in 1996. All our members work as volunteers. We support various hospitals and health centres in the Camagüey Province and supervise sponsorship of the "Pediatrico" Eduardo Agrarmonte Piña Regional Children's Hospital in Camagüey.

There is also a sponsorship of the Alvaro Barbo Machado pre-university school in Camagüey and a project partnership with Cuba Solar and CITA. Projects are thought through together, developed by the locals themselves, then implemented with our financial help. The common emphasis is on clean water supplies, especially drinking water, and on building and installing solar water purification plants in schools, old people's Homes, health centres and on isolated islands.

Our aims are to support, financially and materially, socially integrated medical, humanitarian and environmentally friendly enterprises and projects in Cuba, and especially to promote the exchange of information by inviting German students, scientists, trade unionists, artists and politicians and organising information and discussion events about Latin America and Cuba.

Our projects and campaigns go in parallel with publicity work, to raise awareness of the interrelatedness of north and south and to promote solidarity for this “one world”.
