Qui sommes-nous

Abá e.V. - Working Group for Human Rights is a non-profit organization that works for human rights, cultural exchange and social participation in Germany. The association was founded in 2017 by German and Brazilian citizens. The name Abá means "man" in the Brazilian indigenous Tupi-Guarani language. All our campaigns, events and projects are structured equally, i.e. women and LGBTQ+ are in the foreground.

Our goals
The purpose of the association is the promotion of one-world work and the promotion of an international attitude, tolerance in all areas of culture and the idea of international understanding.
The goals of the association are threefold:
• Social participation of migrants: We would like to contribute to the social participation of migrants by offering advice, free German courses, political education, voluntary work and information events.
• Educational work on development policy: We offer information events about the living conditions of disadvantaged people in the Global South, as well as opportunities for exchange between committed people from the Global South.
• One-world work with the Global South: We carry out social projects to help the indigenous peoples of Brazil, especially the Guarani and Kaiowás.

Projects in Germany:
• Counselling and integration guides: A guide builds bridges for the social participation of migrants in Germany. We offer help through the counselling program and qualification courses.
• Language promotion - German and Portuguese: Language acquisition promotes international understanding, cultural exchange and social participation. Language café and language courses. Writing workshop: In this course, grammatical rules are refreshed and used in a targeted manner in everyday situations.
• Meet diversely, move together - women's meeting: The project aims to create a space for regular encounters and participation of migrants and non-migrants and to strengthen their dialogue and action skills with regard to human rights and society and their desired topics.
• Political Women's Café: The meeting is aimed at all women* with a history of migration who are interested in the topic of women's* and human rights, as well as integration through political commitment, and who would like to exchange ideas.
• FeijoAba – Cultural Festival: The cultural festival “FeijoAba” is a wordplay on feijoada (a typical Brazilian dish) plus aba. This festival is organized thematically.
• Global Learning - Information events, publications and rallies
• Art exhibition: In our main location at Berger Straße 287 (Frankfurt am Main) we have set up a special exhibition space for artistic works (pictures, illustrations, photographs, art prints, etc.) by artists who deal with human rights and/or after looking for opportunities to exhibit their work in Frankfurt.

Projects in Brazil:
