Uganda Rural Information and Communication Technology/Education Center URICT – Uganda, established in 2005, is a Charitable Organization registered as a Non Governmental Organization operating in Kamuli, Busoga Region,Eastern Uganda.

What we do
• Women empowerment: Advocacy for women’s rights, gender equality and equity; Making legal amendments to accommodate gender sensitivity issues concerning policies; Promoting affirmative actions and gender mainstreaming; Promotion of education for girl child; Enhancing the use of technology, in particular information & communication to promote the empowerment of women; Adopt and strengthen sound policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels.
• Empowering women, teenage mothers, grandmothers and youth in skilling: Project focused program areas: Tailoring; Craft work (knitting); Enterprising skills through financial literacy (establishment of community saving groups); Welding and Brick making; Candle making; Liquid soap making; Door mat and Sanitary Pads making; Sanitizer and face mask making.
• Ending human trafficking and child sacrifice: Following the ever-increasing child murder/sacrifice in ritual, cult and witchcraft acts within Kamuli, yet the police and authorities have failed to stop this evil, in an emergence meeting at URICT, we have adopted a resolution to raise financial resources for sensitization, publication, workshops and to construct a victim shelter and fence around the property. Planning of construction of a shelter and security fence at the victim’s house for keeping traumatized women and girls because of domestic violence, forced marriage, human sacrifice, human trafficking, forced sex, rap etc.
• Safe motherhood and maternal health initiative: We sensitize mothers and husbands in the villages of Busoga Eastern region districts on health, nutrition, safety and gender sensitivity; We train community members as birthing attendants and community awareness leaders and equip them with Safe Mother Kits, mobile phone and bicycles; To train URICT-UGANDA staff members on Safe Motherhood practices, trainer of trainees; We pattern with the local and international health departments on issue of women and children’s health.
• Women fruit farming for income generating and nutrition project (FFIGNP): Pest control and insecticide/ Fertilizer use; Technical knowledge and inadequate research; Environmental challenges, Soil erosion, Waste disposal and options for dispensing of used chemical containers; Marketing and Production Skills
• Janet orphanage junior school: The Orphanage is a home to 50 Children. The Orphanage School has 375 pupils.
• Orphanage center: URICT is looking after HIV/AIDS Orphans, total orphans, children with disabilities and we have 12 local and international volunteers who help on the daily basis.
• URICT – Joy Children’s Center: URICT Uganda established a Children’s Center to give protection and a safe environment where Children can grow, study and enjoy to realise their full potential.
