About us

pur pur Culture was founded by freelance artists in 2003 and began its work in 2004 with a 6 weeks' art project for unemployed youths. Every man for himself!

The name of our organisation “pur pur Culture” expresses the fact that as artists, we each want our own artistic expression (pur) to make hearts swing in a creative process together with others, to create a whole artistic work (pur pur).

The objective of the organisation is artistic education, particularly in the social area. We focus on work with disadvantaged children and juveniles, immigrants and the disabled. We aim to promote their individual development through artistic creativity. Our goal is a positive social transformation, since our projects are intended make a contribution towards everyone being able to play an equal role in society, within the sense of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Activities:
• Workshops and courses: throughout the year our artists provide exciting workshops and courses within their specialised areas. We take particular care to make these also suitable for the disabled.
• Projects: these are an important part of our work. Together with schools, social facilities and initiatives, we develop customised projects, devised for children, youths, adults and the disabled.
• Multiplicator training: the workers in our theatre for the deaf “deaf5” pass on their knowledge in theory and practice. The hearing impaired train to be directors, there is further training for hearing theatre producers.
• Seminars and work colleagues' theatre: together with “LeQ-Consult Darmstadt” we apply very successful topic-based theatre work to staff and organisational development. Methods are based on professional actors' training.

“deaf5” developed out of two integrative culture projects carried out by pur pur Culture from 2005 to 2007. The hearing impaired participants in both projects wanted to found their own theatre ensemble. The same group has been rehearsing together since 2007.

Monika Hilz is on the committee of pur pur Culture and is the head of deaf5.

On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date information and contacts in the field of our work.
