Sobre nosotros

The aim of our association, founded in 2013, is to promote the establishment of a modern school in Lomé, Togo, West Africa. That is why our association is called the Friends of Suku yeye – Togo School Project (Suku yeye means “new school” in the Togolese national language, Ewe). The motivation comes from our first chairman Kokoutse Nyavo, who grew up in Togo himself and experienced first-hand the deficits of the school system there and the need for a modern school, open to everyone.

The school project "Suku yeye" has as its goal activities to support schools – a primary school with kindergarten, a college and lycée (secondary level I and II) - and to support the needy, such as orphans and children who are on their own.

The primary goal is to enable the above-mentioned people to go to school.

Our vision is to promote the establishment of a school that gives children a modern education that is adapted to the requirements of this world. The school should be open to all children, school attendance should be free of charge and school materials should be provided free of charge. However, we depend on donations and support for this. With just a little support, we can try to keep school fees as low as possible.

Therefore this association takes over:
- The construction of a modern non-government school that everyone can attend.
- The promotion of a good school education that meets the requirements of a modern world.
- The provision of appropriate school materials.

With precise school programs, the association "Suku yeye" wants to correct the lingering deficits of the colonial school system and the lack of correspondence between local realities and the abstract nature of the school programs, as well as the general orientation towards the French school system. It is therefore about a teaching system that is independently West African / Togolese, integrates the local culture and takes into account modern teaching methods and the requirements of our time.

Projects:
• Our school: Suku Yeye's project school consists of 6 classes from 1st class to 6th class. The 6th class is very important because at the end of it the students take a state exam (Certificat d´Etudes du Premier Cycle = school certificate of the first cycle) in order to be able to enter the second cycle (Collège). 103 children are registered in our school for the 2018/2019 school year. Registration is free. Parents have the option of paying the school fees (approx. 38 euros per year) in several instalments. We make the material for the students' uniforms available to the parents at a very reasonable price. The students attend the preparatory course during the holidays free of charge.
• Our kindergarten: We have been able to set up a pre-school kindergarten. Today, 23 children between the ages of 2 and 3 attend. Unfortunately we have to separate the small children from the big ones as they distract the big children from writing and playing.
• The school canteen: There is no school canteen. Almost every day parents complain because their children have to eat outside in the sun and dust. Only a physically healthy child can also develop well intellectually. Therefore, it is immensely important that the children are offered a healthy meal in an appropriate space. For the construction of a temporary school canteen we need about 3600 euros. We are also happy to accept donations in kind for canteen equipment.
• Computers for everyone !!!: Today the computer remains an invention that many people in Togo have never seen or touched. In most schools in Togo, where the school situation is still not well established, a computer, a laptop or even a smartphone brings great joy to the children and the teaching teams. In addition, we want to give all children from pre-school age a first insight into computer science.
• Donations of school supplies: In cooperation with our sister association Association Suku Yeye - Togo, we will provide students of the public elementary school in Akpakpakpé (Haho) with a quantity of 500 notebooks and a thousand pens, pencils, erasers, etc.

Valentin Kokoutse Nyavo is the 1st chairman of the support association Suku yeye - Togo School Project.

On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date information and contacts in the field of our work.
