Connecting Gender for development (COGEN) is a Nigerian based women’s right and gender not for profit organization registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission working in Nigeria with focus on Northern Nigeria

Our mission
COGEN´s mission ist to empower women and communities to identify and advocate their own issues; creating linkages between communities and relevant institutions to enable communities advocate their issues and promote inclusive participation in governance and development.

What We Do
• Support individuals and communities to create the necessary linkages with the right stakeholders, governments and corporate institutions to enable them to achieve their goal
• Enhance the quality of deliverance of governance through our work in tracking and monitoring government spending and project implementation to provide empirical evidence for citizens and policy makers.
• Build the capacity of citizens, organizations and governments to clearly identify their issues, articulate their demands and advocate to relevant stakeholders to achieve their goals

COGEN works in five major areas:
• Democracy and governance – Women´s political participation
• Economic empowerment
• Education and health
• Climate change, conflict transformation and peace building
• Gender and social inclusion

Activities:
COGEN mobilizes and supports community groups and networks to collaboratively monitor, document and demand accountability in the administration of the Home Grown School Feeding Programme in Kaduna State. The project contributes tot he goal of reducing corruption by building an atmospere of accountability , transparency and good governance.
We are currently tracking the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme in 60 schools in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The goal was to ensure successful implementation of the programme in promoting learning, enrolment, retention and completion of primary schools by pupils.

Ngukwase Surma is the Executive Director of Connecting Gender for development (COGEN).

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
