About us

Women Relief Aid (WRA) is a women-lead, national non-governmental organization in South Sudan since 2017 founded to provide humanitarian assistance for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction. The organization aims to promote and protect women and children rights, with particular focus on women sexual & reproductive health rights, education, livelihood, leadership and development.
Whilst operating in different states of the country, WRA carry a range of interventions in the areas of women rights, education, health & hygiene, women empowerment, emergency response & preparedness, governance, free legal aid, human rights, etc.

Provision of humanitarian assistance for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction with particular focus on women sexual & reproductive health, rights, livelihood, education, empowerment, leadership and development.

Our mission
Through provision of humanitarian assistance for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction, we carry out advocacy and training programs on SRHR, HIV & gender justice, women livelihood, women education, strengthens the public understanding on women, human and sexual rights, the relationship between sexuality, development and social justice.

The type of activities undertaken by the organization range from capacity building to service delivery, with focus remaining on the deprived and marginalized segments of the society. Whereas in terms of operations what characterizes WRA’s functioning are its efforts to:
• enlist involvement of the locals when initiating activities at the grass root level;
• mobilize women for bringing peace, tolerance, and development in society.

Programmes and activities:
• Livelihood Support and Skills Training: To provide livelihood skills training to and women to become self-dependents. Our activities on livelihood skills training and support include and not limited to: Handcrafts making (bead-ware, handbags, sandals, handkerchiefs, bed sheets, door mats, floor mats, etc.; Briquettes making; Liquid and bar soap making and Candle making
• Micro Credit: After having served the organization for at least a year and have acquired the necessary training in livelihood skills, we; Organize young people and women into micro-enterprises or cooperative cells; Provide micro-finance loans to establish themselves; Provide training themselves to other young people and women within their localities; Repay the loans for another cycle of loans to new groups.
• Peace Building and Social Cohesion: To ensure young people and women are engage in peace building and social cohesion activities themselves within their localities. Conduct peace building campaigns and rallie;. Use drama and music to deliver peace messages; Create community participatory radio talk shows; Distribution of newsletters on peace building and particularly in local dialects.
• Education: Ensure increase school going child enrollment rate rise, particularly girl-child; Carrying out girl-child education enrollment; Construction of TLSs in remote areas and in IDP camps and provision of school supplies / stationeries; Distribution of sanitary towels to girls; Ensure that there are WASH programs in schools and around schools; Scholarships to vulnerable learners of South Sudan.
• Environmental Protection: We are carrying out measures to protect environment.: Tree planning programs; Community awareness programs on the importance of protecting environment etc.
• Health: Ensure increase health programs for vulnerable women and other women projects in recognition of women basic needs in South Sudan (covid-19 programs HIV/AIDs, Nutrition program, etc.: Covid-19 awareness programs; HIV/AIDs programs targeting women and children; Nutrition packages; Health services communities outreaches programs on general health related issues; RHS
• Research and Advocacy: Conduct periodical assessments and research and advocate against all issues that affect young people and women. Conduct periodical assessments and research material which we share with stakeholders in young people and women issues.

Akello Irene Mercy is the Country Director of Women Relief Aid (WRA).

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
