About us

Empower India is a Civil Society Organisation which has been working with grassroots communities for the past 30 years. It was established in the year 1991 by Mr. A. Sankar with a voluntary participation of a team of dedicated development activists. An organisation having Special Consultative Status with United Nations Economic Social Council (UN ECOSOC) and accredited to the United Nations Environment Programme – UNEP & United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification - UNCCD too. Also the Recipient of State Consumer Protection Award from Govt. of TamilNadu.

Facilitating the community to gain control over their lives by nurturing their innate capacities to make their own choices.

Legal status
• EMPOWER is registered under Tamilnadu Societies Act in the year 1991.
• EMPOWER is registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs to receive Foreign Contributions under the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (FCRA).
• Donations to EMPOWER are exempted under section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
