About us

Organization for Aid to Refugees (OPU) was established in 1991 in Prague as a non-profit, non-governmental, humanitarian organization.

What we do:

• provide free-of-charge legal and social assistance to foreigners in need (victims of exploitation, human trafficking, foreigners in detention or homeless)
• look after minor foreigners without parents
• help foreigners integrate in the Czech Republic or return back home successfully
• bring Czech public and refugees together with helps of volunteers
• prevent extremism and discrimination against foreigners and minorities
• realize development projects in foreigners´ countries of origin
• educate public as well as experts

Projects:

• Foreign workers in the labour market: a project directed at equal rights for foreign workers and the improvement of their occupational safety
• General counseling and legal assistance for foreigners in the return process: Focuses on foreigners who fail to satisfy the entry and residence conditions in the Czech Republic as its target group
• Day care centre in the region of Khasuri in Georgia for seniors – refugees from South Ossetia who settled down in the Khasuri region in central Georgia after the 2008 war
• “Start in my new place” is project that offers complete programme dedicated to encourage female third-country nationals to start and develop their labour life
• Combating Racism, Xenophobia and Extremism in Central Europe
• Project Opening Doors deals with the topic of violence against foreign women
• „My future in the Czech Republic? Piece of cake!“ is project that helps underage foreigners who are in the Czech Republic without their parents or appointed guardians and who have been placed into a Facility for children of foreign nationals
• In the street: Street workers offer the target group of foreigners information concerning social and legal issues, as well as complex help with difficult situations arising from common everyday obligations
• International development cooperation projects evaluation: General reconstruction and upgrade of tramways in Sarajevo
• And several other projects
