Qui sommes-nous

In addition to environmental protection, the Schulte family also wants to face up to social responsibility in Kenya and founds the non-profit association Skills for Kenya e.V. together with some friends. The association supports young Kenyans in their home country in their professional education and training to give them better access to professional life and help them to develop their skills and knowledge.
On 26. September 2013 seven founder members signed the articles of association and with it decided on the foundation of the charitable Skills for Kenya e.V.

What we do
• Educate Kids: The association supports young Kenyans in their country during their professional education and training in order to enable a better start in their working life and to help them develop their knowledge and skills. Special attention is paid to socially weak and disadvantaged children and adoloscents whose environment and familiar situations don't offer the financial means for education and training.
• Support Kids: In particular the children of the orphanage Mji Wa Salama in Mombasa, Kenya, shall be supported in order to make it easier for them to find jobs when old enough. The association additionally supports projects, where young people are trained in skilled manual and gastronomic jobs in the style of the German educational system.

Project:
Severin CraftsmanTraining Center:
In cooperation with the German Association of International Cooperation (GIZ) and based on a develoPPP contract, the hotel runs five training workshops for craftsmen professions. The Training Center at the Green Building aims to teach less of theoretical knowledge but more of manual skills with an immediate benefit to the local participants. In dependence on the dual education, craftsmen courses for electricians, plumbers, masons, carpenters and metalworkers are offered.
In our training company that was certificated by the Kenyan Technical, Vocational and Educational Training Authority (TVETA) only trainers certified by TVETA and trained according to German industrial training standards will be engaged. Besides theoretical courses in two classrooms practical courses are held in cooperation with local crafts enterprises and hotels.
In addition, the preventive maintenance programs (PMP) for buildings and machines carried out by Severin Sea Lodge give the participants the ideal possibility to realize their acquired knowledge in their area of training.
After completion of their courses the participants will undertake Ministry of Education certification exam at a TVET Centre. As there is a high demand for well-trained skilled staff, the graduates won't have any problems finding a job in the region of Mombasa or open their own little crafts enterprise.
The students will pay a nominal fee and enrolment will comprise, as a minimum requirement, of students who have completed their primary education and are interested in learning craftsmen professions.
Adolescents that can't afford the course fees themselves, can apply for support by our association. At the moment, there are 22 students at Severin Craftsman Training Center we - and you - support.

For other net participants we can send more information on the work of our association, procure expert information and establish new contacts.
