About us

The Qolora Education Centre (QEC) is a registered Non Profit Organization in a poor, rural village in a remote part of the Eastern Cape of South Africa with the focus on educating school children.

The vision of the Qolora Education Centre (QEC) is to empower people in rural communities.
The QEC believes that the future of our country is directly linked to the education of our children.

Our aim is to uplift rural children affording them an equal footing in any opportunity in life.

The South African education system is disintegrating and the resources usually available to other schools are non-existent in this remote region. Most rural schools have a shortage of desks, textbooks, stationery and a lack of running water or proper ablutions, and unfortunately the students suffer the consequences.

This is where the Qolora Education Centre plays a key role.

Our work
• The QEC runs a successful volunteer programme implementing our one-on-one reading programme at surrounding schools.
• The QEC offers various educational and skills developing activities after school at the education centre.
• The QEC offers mentorship and career guidance to high school students.
• The QEC offers support, guidance and training to pre-school teachers.

Our archievements
• The QEC hosts an annual math olympiad at our centre for surrounding high school students.
• The QEC have started a registered Scouts Group at the centre.
• The QEC co-ordinated a container classroom to be donated to a pre-School.
• The QEC have sponsored a community member to study nursing.
• The QEC have assisted numerous university students in obtaining bursaries / study fees.
• The QEC have succeeded in twining our local rural high school with a prestigious high school in Cape Town.

As a small charity with no corporate funding, we charge volunteers a small fee for food and accommodation. Anyone interested in volunteering to assist us in our work, please contact us.

Debby and Theo Potgieter are executive members of Qolora Education Centre (QEC).

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
