Sobre nosotros

Our focus is environmental education and workforce development for urban teens.

Green Works in Kansas City is the dedicated leader in engaging urban youth in sustainable environmental stewardship and the green economy. Green Works in Kansas City was incorporated in the state of Missouri in February of 2007 and recognized as a not-for-profit corporation in September 2007.

Through science-based experiential learning and paid internship opportunities, young adults learn to care for the environment, experience meaningful career ladders, gain skills that assist them in becoming productive employees, and provide direct community benefits for all of us by improving the urban environment.

Green Works also works with individual citizens, families, neighborhoods and organizations through informal science education to enhance community awareness and support of environmental education and workforce priorities, and inspire increased environmental stewardship and respect.

Programs:
Environmental Connection Opportunities for Students (ECOS): ECOS is a year-long after school program that includes classroom instruction and experiments, hands-on projects, guest speakers, science journals, field trips and service learning opportunities. The ECOS program is designed to mirror the sustainability system of social, economic and environmental balance. ECOS contains four components, educate, involve, prepare and connect:

ECOS is designed around three core objectives:
• Increasing students´ science literacy.
• Changing students´ behavior towards the environment.
• Providing students with an opportunity to experience environmental employment

Kate Corwin is the Founder and President of Green Works in Kansas City.

Share advice, resources and lessons learned for serving youth through an environmental framework.

Green Works students conduct an experiment on insulation to better understand the laws of thermodynamics. This is just one of our fun lessons on energy!
The Green Works Alumni Group pose with a tree they just planted as part of a large educational art installation, We Are Here To Plant A Tree, created by a local artist and water scientist.
Green Works students testing water quality in Brush Creek.
Green Works hosted a week long summer camp about Water! Students created 3-dimensional native plant drawings to show their advanced root systems which are fantastic at cleaning water and helping to slow runoff and reduce soil erosion (just a few benefits native plants offer).
Green Works ECOS student run an experiment to compare efficiency and emissions from the use of automotive fuel versus bio-fuel.
