Actualité

January 2024:

Weiss Scholarship Foundation has just awarded 35 more scholarships to children in Kenya. We provide high school scholarships to children in Kenya who could never go to high school without our support. The key to what we do and what makes us unique is our staff in Kenya. We learned early on that to be successful, an organization needed to do much more than just pay school fees. Our staff, who are all educators, work with each of our students, the key staff people at their boarding high school and the parents or guardians to make sure we are doing everything possible to help them be successful.

In 2012 we awarded our first scholarship and now we have awarded 228. We always divide our money equally between girls and boys to make sure girls get their opportunity. After high school, we help our students on to either university or vocational school, based on the exam they take at the end of high school.

Qui sommes-nous

The Weiss Scholarship Foundation (WSF) was created in memory of Bernard and Elsie Weiss. Both originate from the city of Chicago and grew up very poor during the Great Depression. In spite of their difficult circumstances, they worked hard to make sure their three sons had a great education—and therefore great lives.
Bernard and Elsie were passionate about education and understood its importance in creating a successful life. That’s why Brett, their son, felt it was appropriate to begin this foundation in 2012 in their memory.
We empower children as we work to help create a world where every child has the opportunity to get a great education. We provide scholarships and HOPE to children from Dago, Kenya.

The Weiss Scholarship Foundation’s mission is to empower the children of Kenya by ensuring they have access to a great education. The key to what makes us unique is our 8 staff people on the ground in Kenya, all of whom are educators. We learned early on that in order to be successful, we needed to do much more than just pay school fees. Our staff works directly with each student, the key staff people at their boarding high school and the parents and guardians in their life. Their goal is to make sure we are doing everything possible to help them be a great success.

Our vision is to create an organization that can positively touch the life of every child in Kenya, and then the world, helping them to develop a positive sense of self and enrich their lives—enabling them to realize their full potential.

We are working to give real hope to these children, their families and the entire village. We believe that we can empower children by creating a world in which every child has access to a better education—and, in turn, they will help improve lives by passing on a positive legacy of enrichment and hope.
