Qui sommes-nous

Karin Community Initiatives Uganda (KCIU) is a registered Non-Governmental Organization and has been operating in Gulu District, Uganda since 2001. We are a local non-profit organisation seeking to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of vulnerable and orphaned children, families and the whole community through primary health care and other community development initiatives.

KCIU is best known for its establishment of the Karin Medical Centre (KMC) in the Unyama Parish, and the Agonga Karin Community Health Centre (AKCHC) in the Agonga Parish. These two centers form the basis for health care and community development services for approximately 21,000 people in an area devoid of any formal health care facilities.
With 30 Ugandan clinical and administrative staff, we are a compact organization with a tireless commitment to provide quality access to health care and livelihoods to families.

The mission of KARIN Community Initiative Uganda (KCIU) is to transform lives and heal the community in a Christ-like way through provision of quality healthcare services

KCIU envisions a better future for all children in assisted communities with access to quality medical care, improved incomes and presentation of God as a caring and loving being who calls all people to a new life in his love and salvation.

Focus areas:
• Health Care: Our goal is to provide basic quality healthcare to our community. Eliminating disease is the best way to fight poverty
• Economic Empowerment: Helping the rural women become part of the formal economy and create jobs in rural areas where there is very little employment
• Education: Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfill their potential.
• Farming: Sustainable livelihoods constitute a critical component within KCIU’s work on poverty alleviation and integrated development.

Projects:
We run projects in over 30 Villages in Gulu, Uganda
• Community Health Insurance
• Give a child a start to education for a year
• Loan cows to 240 local farmers in Gulu Communities
• Provide health care to 25 villages in postwar Gulu: The 1st clinic opened in 2006, the 2nd in 2012, providing primary care, disease prevention/treatment, and maternal/child health care by trained staff. The need far surpasses capacity. This project adds infrastructure to serve more people: a maternity wing, improved sanitation, and outreach to 50,000 local people unable to travel to the clinics.

Hope Okeny is the Executive Director of Karin Community Initiative Uganda (KCIU).
