Sobre nosotros

The DISC Initiatives was a renaissance of the Donyo youths in Collaboration with Charles Ochieng founded in the year 2008. Its Establishment if founded on the basis of responding to the youths un-employment culture.

Our Mission is to enable and promote our community for a positive change through education, economic empowerment, and medical care.

What we do:
• Economic Empowerment: We believe that if women are given access to credit that they need then the purposes of transforming their families through small scale business to improve their social -economic status is ignited. In our micro-finance program women form groups where they co-guarantee each other and access loans from as little as to a maximum of 0 maximum repayment period is usually broken down to one year before being transitioned out of the program. The process takes a maximum of three years where the women get to train about savings, record keeping, and finance management. Our on-site supervision includes help in picking a business, training in inventory and supply, monitoring adherence to a business plan, as well as mandatory quarterly business seminars among other capacities. We have partnered with Gnu foundation in the US which provides as with the seed grant capital.
• Education Program: In our education program we offer scholarships for under-privileged children and our scholarship ranges from Early Child Hood Development, Primary & Secondary School & University and Middle Level College.
• ICT Program: It is clear that Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have the potential to change old and new forms of economic activity. This can result in e-literate groups and unemployed youths having access to resources to develop solutions centered towards their community problems. Such groups would also be able to gain skills and knowledge through exchange of ideas and events and workshops. We are working towards achieving an I-Lab in the rural Donyo community by accessing a platform for the youths and the community to learn basic and advanced computer skills program together with coding. Our primary focus is children in school, youths in and after secondary school and community members through our Social-Business Model.
• Medical Care Program: Community Health Insurance program started in January 2017. Its establishment is founded on the basis of responding to families through provision of medical insurance and better livelihood. In this program, we aim to assist families in Donyo community by acquiring registration to the National Hospital Insurance Fund better known as NHIF insurance cover to the most affected families with the highest risk of dangerous and chronic diseases and attract the highest level of medical services e.g. diabetes, cancer, heart diseases, kidney dialysis, injuries as an outcome of accidents among other outpatient and inpatient medical services. Our model is we enroll a family into a three year program with us. During the three year duration the family gets to undergoes life skills training and quarterly empowerment meetings on health, hygiene and entrepreneurship and then transitioned out of the program.
• G-raise Mentorship Program: The DISC G-raise accelerator program aims at supporting community based early phase/starting social impact ventures – Known to us as ‘LOCAL CHAMPIONS’ –who are motivated, encouraged and enthusiastic with solutions to local problems in Kenya’s disadvantaged communities. G-Raise accelerator program seeks to work within the framework of DISC/ Gnu foundation social business program and strive to invite other partners to scale up to reach to many local champions. We do this in three stages: Enable – Promote - Connect
