About us

Drupngi Khading Ling Nepal (DK Ling) is a non-government and non-profit organisation based in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.
Founded in 2013 by a group of senior Buddhist monks of the Kagyu-lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, our aim is to establish an extra-ordinary and open-minded Buddhist center where everyone can live, study and practice Dharma in harmony.
Our special focus is on providing a new home to underprivileged Nepalese children where they grow up between traditional Tibetan Buddhism and a modern school education.
Convinced of the positive effect that Buddhist teachings and practices of mind-training have on the well-being of each and everyone of us, Drupngi Khading Ling also offers educational programs for both Buddhists and non-Buddhists from all around the globe.

Objectives:
• To set up facilities for the accommodation and education of more children
• To teach short-term and long-term Tibetan language, Buddhist philosophy, Yoga, practical and theoretical Buddhist meditation and Reiki therapy to the interested people of different age and from different countries.
• To mobilize our members in different fields according to their interests, skills and wisdom
• To train our new members to teach others, make them realize the value of love and caring for others and prepare them to serve others with the method of loving kindness and compassion.

Activities:
• Drupngi Khading Ling children home: With the initiation of our children home we want to offer to underprivileged Nepalese children a double chance of a life without material destitution and with spiritual richness. We house children from low-income families, orphans and semi-orphans who have no prospect of education who have already experienced extreme hardship during their short lives to ensure both their academic education and spiritual development. All our children stay at the facilities of the Drupgni Khading Ling foundation until they have completed twelve years of regular school education and gained their SLC (school leaving certificate), or until after their 18th birthday they decide to leave DK Ling. Former students of Drupgni Khading Ling are invited to stay with us and begin the life of ordained monks, but also encouraged to find and go their own way.
• Students get their accommodation, food, clothing, health care and education for free. They have no obligation to pay anything back to Drupgni Khading Ling, and are not forced or persuaded to stay against their will.
• Support for monastics in Nepal: All monks and nuns, whether elderly or young, who had to quit their monastery due to unfavourable circumstances but are still convinced to follow a life in accordance with the Dharma are given special support at DK Ling. They receive personal advice and encouragement and the opportunity to re-organise themselves in a new community of freedom and tolerance. Under the condition of not having broken their vows they are offered to stay as a new member with Drupgni Khading Ling and develop and use their potential to benefit the people around them.

Khenpo Karma DM is one of the four founding members of Drupgni Khading Ling.
