About us

The A´ray Justice and Peace Initiative (TAJPI) is a non-governmental, non-political organization, non-profit sharing organization initiated by Friar John Sulle OFMCap under the patronage of the Capuchin Friars Minor Province of Tanzania in collaboration with professional and other noble people. The organization is registered as Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) under the NGO’s Act No 24 of 2002 as amended in 2005 with certificate of registration number 00010156. The organization was established as the brainchild of the participative thinking in reconciliation and mediation through traditional, religious, and government principles under the values of justice, peace and integrity. The main objective of this mindset is to involve the wider society including development partners, companies, institutions, and individuals in contributing to achieving the organizational goals of TAJPI on ensuring better improvement at individual and community living of the marginalized groups in Tanzania

TAJPI envisions a vibrant society where the most vulnerable and marginalized people lead fulfilled lives as they are valued, included and empowered and feel that we are on their side.

Our mission
TAJPI strives to change the level of the most vulnerable and marginalized people in their communities through promotion of justice, peace and integrity of creation that flourish and blossom.

Our Progammes/Areas of Focus
• Gender-based Violence. This issue is not only devastating for survivors of violence and their families, but also entails significant social and economic costs. In some countries, violence against women is estimated to cost countries up to 3.7% of their GDP – more than double what most governments spend on education.
• Child Protection. The problems facing children are many and varied. They included poverty, lack of access to services, poor environmental conditions, inadequate material supplies, social instability and overworked and demoralized caregivers who negatively affects children’s development directly and often simultaneously. Family livelihoods and employment income are lost when breadwinners become ill and die and when available resources have to be shared amongst affected kin.
• Women’s Empowerment. Our plan is to organize women forums to advocate for ownership of property and land to increase participation in decision making, while fighting unwanted behavior that has a bearing on women’s rights like gender-based violence.
• Environment Conservation. We only have one planet on which we live. The planet is full of resources, some renewable and some not, but unfortunately, we have an ever-growing population that poses a huge threat to all these resources. It is therefore unclear what future generations will find, if ever, and what life will be like for them if we exploit all the current resources.
• Promoting Justice, Peace and Accountability. The TAJPI intends to enforce good governance and promote justice and peace at all levels by looking on key issues that stood as stumbling block to development. These included; Ineffective community participation in influencing decision making processes due to weak capacity of poor and excluded people’s organization leading to the denial of their rights and low level of transparency, accountability on the side of government and non-state actors
