About us

Ghana Permaculture Institute is a Not For Profit Organisation that promotes permaculture systems and social enterprises to overcome social and environmental degradation.

We believe that anyone can enhance their food security and livelihood through the utilisation of permaculture practices.

Ghana Permaculture Institute (GPI), seeks to consider the future feedback of human interaction with the environment. GPI uses the permaculture principles and ethics of earth care, people care and fair share in the implementation of its sustainable developmental activities and projects.
GPI through its exemplary model of seeing solutions beyond problems has identified the core challenge of poverty which commits people to initiate certain actions that negatively affect the environment.
Ghana Permaculture Institute promotes permaculture systems and methodologies through education, implementation and demonstration at our site in Tanoboase, along with out-reach programmes in the community and more widely throughout Africa.

Community work:
• PWEP: The Permaculture Women Empowerment Project works to mobilise financial, human and material resources so as to empower women and girls. Through the project we teach skills and methods to create sustainable livelihoods, allowing them to fulfil their potential and improve their quality of life.
• PCEC - Permaculture Career Education Club: Through the PCEC we teach practical permaculture and permaculture enterprise. Another aspect of this work is the School Gardens Project. We also offer health-care talks and self-worth and leadership training.
• Alternative Medicine Centre: Since the pilot project began in 2018, over 2000 people have been screened, diagnosed and given medications and three communities have been educated on health promoting lifestyles.
• Sustainable Livelihood Programmes: Outreach Permaculture Design Course; Tree Nurseries; Mushroom Production; Batik-Programme; Bee Keeping; Moringa & High Value Crops

GPI Aboretum:
To promote an understanding and appreciation of trees and nature through programs that integrate science and the liberal arts, focusing upon native landscapes and well-documented plant collections arranged aesthetically and ecologically in a naturalistic design for professional and public study and quiet enjoyment
The Ghana Permaculture Institute (GPI) arboretum is opened to students, organisations and the general public who want to learn about the types of trees we have on our site. People who needs to relax after a hard day’s work, can come to our site to relax and have some site seeing.
