About us
Mentor Foundation USA is a non-profit organization that works to reduce risk factors and increase opportunities for youth. Our school-based mentoring programs, authentic career opportunities and community connection workshops help to motivate youth towards higher achievement and living positive and healthy lifestyles.
The Mentor Foundation International (Mentor International) is a Swiss registered charity established in 1994 by HM Queen Silvia of Sweden in collaboration with The World Health Organization. Mentor International, together with Mentor Foundation USA and the other Mentor organizations around the world, is the leading international not-for-profit network empowering youth and preventing substance abuse.
Our main programs include:
• School Based Mentoring Program: Mentor Foundation USA´s School Based Mentoring Program engages local businesses with schools in an effort to bridge the achievement gap while empowering youth to challenge themselves, stay positive and make healthy choices. Mentoring sessions occur twice a month for at least 90 minutes and can take place on site at a partnering business or school. Each mentoring session is aligned with one of Mentor Foundation USA´s Four Mantras: I Have a Plan. I Have a Voice. I Have a Choice. & I Have a Responsibility.
• Authentic Career Experiences (ACE): ACE provide students with interactive experiences within various career industries. We consult with businesses and organizations to develop interactive activities for youth to participate in on site. Mentor Foundation USA exposes students to various career fields in an effort to increase their motivation and ability to reach their goals. Students engage in pre-post assessments to measure their knowledge of a particular career, learn valuable workforce development skills and create an action plan for reaching their future professional goals.
• Community Connections - Advocacy in Action: As an advocate for prevention, Mentor Foundation USA identifies, implements and shares information regarding best practices. We work in collaboration with leading prevention scientists and agencies to inform various groups and communities about trends and other factors that lead to substance abuse. We also encourage and support information sharing throughout communities. Examples of Mentor Foundation USA´s Community Connections: Peer to Peer Power; Parent Workshops; Youth Rallies.
