About us

The Marie Women's Centre stems from the time of German reunification (1989/1990), at the dawning of women's politics in eastern Germany. Having become accustomed to women “standing on their own feet” and having control of their own money, the founders (1991) developed projects for further education and training for women, as well as an advice centre, aimed at women who were unemployed or about to lose their jobs. These projects have been continuously run and developed since then.

Our mission is to support women in the realisation of their entitlement to fulfilling work, an independent life and personal development.
• To that end, we prepare individual advice and training programmes. Both of these deal with imparting information about correlations and structures in society, ways of achieving occupational and personal development, and also with the encouragement of self-awareness, independent action and emancipation.
• We take a stand on women's position in society, as far as employment and lifestyle are concerned, and wish to promote changes. Thus we cooperate with successful women teachers and trainers, women's political networks and professional working groups. In addition, we develop artistic and political initiatives and invite interested women to take part.
