About us

Globalteer is a UK Charity working overseas in the fields of community projects, schools, animal rescue and conservation. Globalteer was founded by Jim Elliott as a UK non-profit organisation in June 2006 and achieved full charity status by June 2007.

Globalteer has two main offices. Our Peru office in Cusco is our South American volunteer hub and is also our head office. Our office in Siem Reap, Cambodia is our Southeast Asain hub and of course where we host many of our Cambodia volunteers. We also have a permanent member of staff in Medellin, Colombia who looks after all our Colombia volunteers.

The Globalteer Vision
A world where human and animal suffering are minimised and the future of our planet is safeguarded by effectively harnessing the goodwill of people who share our vision.

The Globalteer Mission
• To provide appropriate support to responsible and sustainable projects working in community development, wildlife rescue, and environmental conservation.
• To raise awareness of the plight of the communities with whom we work and create lifelong ambassadors for the projects with which we work.
• Educate locals and volunteers about environmental issues and the need to protect wildlife.

Charitable objectives
• To promote sustainable development for the benefit of the public by the relief of poverty and the improvement of the conditions of life in socially disadvantaged communities.
• Sustainable development means “development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
• To promote humane behaviour towards animals by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for animals which are in need of attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage, and to educate the public in matters pertaining to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among animals.

Our work
• Globalteer provides volunteering opportunities at affordable rates and free volunteer internships, while maintaining high standards of responsible volunteering.
• Globalteer provides vital funding and volunteers to carefully chosen community and wildlife projects in Asia and South America.
• Globalteer has placed thousands of volunteers across the world, at animal conservation projects and rescue centres, to teaching English to disadvantaged children and multifaceted community development projects. Globalteer is at the forefront of the responsible volunteering movement - all of our projects are responsible, ethical and sustainable.

Jim Elliott is the Founder and General Manager of Globalteer and Marie Louise Pontoppidan Nielsen is a Globalteer Volunteer in Cusco, Peru.

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
