Meduxnekeag River Association (MRA)

The Meduxnekeag River Association (MRA) was formed in Woodstock, New Brunswick in 1995 as a Canadian community-based non-profit environmental watershed organization that has protected over 700 acres of ecoregionally significant habitats.

Our purpose:
• to promote, encourage and assist in the protection, restoration and responsible use of the Meduxnekeag River Watershed;
• to promote and encourage the protection, conservation and enhancement of wild Brook trout, Brown trout and Atlantic salmon;
• to co-operate with landowners to conserve the natural riparian zone along the Meduxnekeag and its wildlife and plant species;
• to preserve remnant Appalachian Hardwood forests and their inherent biodiversity and natural beauty;
• to promote public education and awareness of the value of preserving the natural qualities and biodiversity of the unique Meduxnekeag River watershed; and,
• to co-operate with and support any agency that shares a common purpose with the Association.

Since 1998, we have purchased and protected as the Meduxnekeag Valley Nature Preserve about 300 hectares of ecologically-rich riparian forest including key habitat of more than a dozen species of provincially-rare plants.

Our two principal education programs are guided curriculum-linked Preserve visits for K-12 classes, and our annual Meduxnekeag Environmental Showcase competition for elementary students.
Meduxnekeag River Association Inc is a registered charity with Revenue Canada, offering tax receipts for donations.

In 2004, we were honoured with a New Brunswick Environmental Leadership Award.
In 2006, we received a Certificate of Recognition from the town of Woodstock.
In 2011, we were the recipient of the Paul McGaw Memorial Conservation Award from the North American Native Plants Society.
In 2012 , Earth Day Canada chose us to receive their national Home Town Heroes Award.

George Peabody is the Administrator of the Meduxnekeag River Association Inc. (MRA).

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
